Monkstown Karate Club
This Wado-Ryu style Karate club was set up in November 1991 and has rapidly moved from strength to strength. The club, founded by 3rd Dan Black Belt instructor Niall Malone, has grown considerably throughout the years and is constantly expanding with the instructor partnership of Kevina Malone (2nd Dan Black Belt). The club is extremely successful in Kata and Sparring competitions both within their Organisation (A.S.K.O.) and externally in international and World competition level (WKA/WIKF/WAKO/AKAI/ONAKAI). There have been numerous quality grading over the years, the recent Blackbelts attained included Kevina Malone, John Fitzpatrick, Phillip Shakespeare, Paul Hannan, Vincent Keating Denis Duffy, Samantha Redmond, Zia Holly, Anneline Weinmann, Hugh Farrelly. The Male and Female fighters and Kata exponents from Pee-Wee (11 years and under) to seniors are all eager to make their mark on Karate nationally and internationally with 24 National qualifiers in the club resulting in 6 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in the World Championships. The Blackrock/Monkstown club currently trains in Scoil Lorcain, Eaton Square, Monkstown, Co. Dublin. Directions: From the Monkstown Road, turn onto Eaton Square. Drive down this square towards the seafront and you will pass Scoil Lorcain on your left hand side.. The Blackrock Karate club will train in this location on Mondays and Thursdays Juniors classes (Kids between 7 - 14 yrs) : 7pm – 8pm.
